One of the most overlooked verses in Acts chapter one is the eleventh one. Unfortunately it's sandwiched between one of the most quoted verses of all time, "for you will receive power...", and the story of Pentecost, but if we were to really look at verse 11 we would realize it is absolutely the most important verse in the first two chapters of Acts. Jesus has just ascended to heaven after his final instructions to the disciples, and as they watch him ascend these angels directly challenge them:
"Why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven."
In essence these angels are telling the disciples, why are looking up in the sky? Jesus told you he's coming back, and he is coming back, why aren't you doing what he told you to do? Stop gawking and start doing. In other words it's time to shift from spectating to acting. I think that same challenge goes out to us today. Stop being a spectator Christian and start acting. Stop watching in worship and start participating, stop standing there as your friends and school mates drive on a collision course to hell and start acting to change their course. DO SOMETHING! Christ is coming back one day, he expects this from us.
I challenge you today to simply stop waiting for Jesus to come back, and start acting on the instructions that Christ has given you. Get off the sidelines and into the game today. Do something to make a difference in God's Kingdom today, not your own.
Here's your group question: Why do you think so many of us are stuck in spectator mode in our faith? Why do we simply watch and wait instead of act? What can we do to change that? Looking forward to your comments!
I myself honestly dont even know what it means to start acting like is that to share Jesus with them or what?
ReplyDeleteshare Jesus, pray, stand up for your faith, stand up for what is right, not going with the flow. Stepping out and doing something incredible for Christ. Acting on your faith instead of simply going to church.
